Discussion Questions

(Write out brief answers to this week's discussion questions and submit them via a direct message to me on Slack no later than 11:59pm on Sunday, October 3rd. Your answers should be brief, no more than a few sentences each. Be prepared to discuss them in class.)

1. Give an example of a time when you have felt social pressure to conform to gender norms in some way. Why do you think this gender norm exists?

2. Frye argues that "the locus of sexism is primarily the system or the framework, not the particular act." What does she mean by this?

3. Frye's definition of sexism is relatively expansive. Give an example of something that would count as sexist, according to Frye's final definition, but which most people would not normally consider an example of sexism.
