Required Readings

Recap video for weeks 2–3

This is a brief video talking through what I take to be the key takeaways of weeks 2–3, plus a bit about why I find these topics interesting in the first place.

Week 3 Assignment

Critical feedback

As in previous weeks, your assignment for this week is to formulate a detailed question about something in the required readings that you find confusing or intellectually unsatisfying, give an objection to one of the readings' arguments, or do some independent research that gives us some reason to doubt what the author(s) say.

However, this week I am going to try something new, and give you two options for how to submit your critical feedback:

  1. Option 1: Post to Slack

I have created a #week3 channel on slack. One option is to post your critical feedback directly there. You can post it as a written comment or as a video of yourself asking the question or posing the objection. If you submit the assignment in this way, it is due by 11:59pm on Wednesday, September 16th. If you take this option, I will answer directly in slack.

  2. Option 2: Come to an optional zoom meeting

Some students have expressed a desire for more interaction, and so I am going to host an optional zoom meeting on Thursday, September 17th from 1:10–2:25 (which is our scheduled class time). If you would like, you can just come to this zoom meeting and raise your critical feedback there. We can also talk through the readings in whatever ways you would like. I repeat that this is optional, and it is an experiment. If enough people come, I will do it again. But if it is not popular, I won't. You can click on this link to go to the zoom meeting.
